LIGHT SAFETY Never leave a burning candle unattended! Smother the candle if it smokes or if the flame flickers uneasily. Keep burning candles out of reach of children and pets. Do not place burning candles in drafts. Drafts cause the candle to burn unevenly, drip and soot. Always smother the flame, do not blow it out! By blowing, you will cause the candle to drip, soot and the tealight can flare up. Do not light candles on or near objects that can catch fire! Always place the candle on a heat-resistant and fire-safe surface. Do not place candles on or near objects that generate heat. Heat can cause the candle to drip, burn too quickly and change shape. Always cut the edges of the candle to a height of about 1 cm. Edges that are higher than the flame prevent oxygen from reaching the flame and cause the candle to soot. Always use a candle holder that is heat-resistant and fire-safe. It should also be stable and large enough to collect dripping candle wax. Place the candles straight! If the candles are straight, they will not drip and the risk of tealights catching fire is minimised. Always cut the wick to a length of about 1 cm before lighting the candle. If the wick is too long, it may form a lump of soot or become too high and start to smoke. The minimum safe distance between burning candles is 7 cm. Candles that are too close together may drip and/or smoke and tealights may catch fire. Keep the wax pool clean of matches and wick residue, as well as residue from the candle's surface treatment. Residue in the wax pool can act as an extra wick and cause the candle to catch fire. Decoratively shaped candles are primarily intended for use as decoration. Use a large candle holder made of fireproof material as these candles can drip a lot. Never use liquid to extinguish a candle! The candle wax floats on top of the liquid and continues to burn. Always use a candle holder of the appropriate size and shape. Never move a burning candle or tealight! This can cause the candle to drip and soot and the tealight wick can change position and flare up. Tealights must be placed in lanterns and holders where they receive sufficient ventilation, otherwise they can flare up. Candles that are burned at a temperature exceeding 25 degrees can overburn. This means that the candle can drip, burn with too much flame and shorten the burning time. Candles that are burned at a temperature below 20 degrees can underburn. This means that the candle can burn with too little flame which can result in leftover paraffin and wax residue and shortened burning time. Do not let the candle burn down completely! Smother the candle when there is about 2 cm left to the holder. Glass holders can crack when they come into contact with the flame and metal holders can transfer the heat which leads to burn marks on the surface, or in the worst case, can start a fire.
